Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree (Oh Tannenbaum, Oh Tannenbaum)

Ok, so my blogging has dropped off considerably sine Thanksgiving. This "getting in the holiday spirit" thing is taking up a lot of my time, what can I say? I spent the ENTIRE day yesterday (minus time spent taking care of Max, of course) decorating the house for Christmas (pictures to come in a future post). It was an enjoyable day, and much Christmas music was enjoyed by all (well, mostly just by me, although I thought I caught Bailey humming along at one point)!

Nathanael joined me for a bit as well, but luckily Mimi picked him up before he completely woke Max from his nap. Natey doesn't exactly have an "indoor voice"...and also he thinks it's funny to try to "feed" Max from the spoon he had just eaten his snack with and refused to give up (said spoon can be seen in the photo below.)

As reward for keeping Nathanael (and, I assume, for being THE best sister on the face of the Earth), Julie brought along these little babies. YUM. Treats always help me get in the holiday spirit!

So, anyway, on to the subject of this post. We got our Christmas Tree today! Chris called me on his way home from work and told me to be ready to go when he got home, so that we could go get the tree and get home to have some dinner, since it was already getting late when he left work. So, when he got home, we were ready to go - Max was all bundled up for his outdoor adventure. I figured he needed to wear a serious coat, since in past years it has taken us quite a while to pick out the perfect tree. Chris's preferred method for picking a tree goes something like this:
Find the portion of the tree lot with the big trees; examine all trees in said section; narrow down selection to 2 trees; examine final two contenders from every possible angle; hem and haw; repeat; make selection and then blame Robin if tree has any imperfections when we get it home. Regardless, Max was ready for extended outdoor exposure.

This will be the third year we've gotten our tree from Grandaddy's Trees in Simpsonville. Today their selection of the bigger trees seemed slimmer than in previous years, but that actually made picking a tree easier. One of our neighbors was there picking a tree too, and he graciously offered to haul our tree home on his trailer. Since we didn't want to make him wait, we made a quicker decision than we would have...Chris might be suffering from a little bit of tree-buyer's regret but we'll reserve judgement until we have the tree fully decorated tomorrow. Max had fun looking at the trees.

But by the time we got home, got the tree inside and prepared to set it up, he seemed to have lost interest.

(Chris didn't want to have his picture taken - I think he didn't want the camera flash to affect his keen tree eyes).

Tomorrow the true fun begins. I'm pretty sure Chris looks forward to putting the lights on the tree ALL YEAR. :) It does take forever, and I know he dreads it, but we always have a beautiful tree...and as I sit here, I can smell that delicious Christmas tree smell and I think I have finally fully found my Christmas spirit.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
Thou hast a wondrous message:
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
Thou hast a wondrous message:
Thou dost proclaim the Saviour's birth
Good will to men and peace on earth
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
Thou hast a wondrous message
